Air China Restarts Direct Flights to North Korea After Six-Year Pause

(MENAFN) China’s national airline, Air China, resumed direct flights to North Korea on Monday, ending a six-year suspension, as stated by reports. This follows the recent restart of train services between Beijing and Pyongyang.

A passenger flight from Beijing arrived in Pyongyang Monday morning, marking the official recommencement of air travel between the two capitals. Chinese Ambassador to North Korea Wang Yajun, along with other diplomats, welcomed the passengers at Sunan International Airport.

Travel between China and North Korea had been heavily restricted since 2020 due to strict border closures imposed during the COVID-19 pandemic. Daily passenger train services between the two countries resumed earlier this month.

North Korea had previously restored direct flights and rail services with Russia last year, while its state carrier, Air Koryo, resumed flights connecting Beijing and Pyongyang in 2023.
